As the United States prepares for the "heaviest snowfall in a decade," six states have declared a state of emergency due to the recent weather forecasts.

Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri have declared state emergencies due to the heavy blizzard headed their way as the new year sets in.

As per the National Weather Service, this winter storm is expected to bring snow, sleet, ice and gusty winds to the states in its path. Even warm Florida is bracing for impact.

NWS also added that“considerable disruptions to daily life,” including “dangerous or impossible driving conditions and widespread closures," are expected due to the storm.

The massive winter storm headed eastward from the Plains to the mid-Atlantic is expected to impact around 62 million people across states. For many states, this winter storm will bring in the "heaviest snowfall seen in over a decade".

NWS has issued storm warnings for Kansas and Missouri predicting at least eight inches of snow in the states, especially in those areas north of Interstate-70.

The New Jersey State Police have arrested the driver responsible, who is now charged with vehicular homicide. He is being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility.

Train services and flights have been cancelled due to the winter storm across the US.

In the D.C. area, schools and federal offices will remain closed on Monday due to the snow. However, if conditions remain bad, the closure is likely to be extended.

As per FlightAware and reported by CNN, almost 2,200 flights have been cancelled with over 25,000 delays.

In Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and other warmer states in the South, the winter storm is expected to bring in thunderstorms and tornadoes due to the gusty winds.

A level three warning is in place for parts of Louisianaubet63, Arkansas and Mississippi due to the winter storm. In the Southeast, flash floods are also expected due to the massive storm.
